Nail Technician Travel Essentials

Before you think you want to jump on board and become a travel nail tech, I think you should make sure you explore every option because as fun as a travel nail tech can be, it can also be a lot of work for you in the end. So let’s talk about it.

I traveled at one point in my nail journey. I remember lugging all of my nail products with me, and every polish I owned I basically pulled up looking like I was ready to move in. The only thing I didn’t bring back then was a table lamp and chair but those days were rough and I was making no money at all so that came to a halt quickly. I eventually was able to have a physical salon location, as you navigate your journey you begin to realize what works for you.

Years went by and that period of me traveling house to house messing up clients kitchen tables up, with the accidental spills of acetone on their table. BTW I still feel so bad for the tables I spilled them on and my clients at the time were understanding. Although at this point I had a physical location at this time I decided to give house calls another try.

The clientele and price point would be different this go around. Raising the standard for your normal house call and dressing the part along with bringing the right materials to keep the entire service successful from beginning to end with no tables messed up in the process. I would say I found the perfect clientele to fit exactly what I was trying to achieve. After booking my 1st high end travel client I knew all the necessities I needed so now I will share what I’ve learned along the way with you.

I know you’re eager to know more about a nail technicians travel essentials, so keep reading to find out more.

How Far Will You Go?

  • IMO I wouldn’t travel more than an hour from where you currently reside. Things happen and here is a quick story for you “ One time I went to a clients house and even though the appointment was confirmed the day prior, she still no showed me…which means when I got to her house she didn’t answer the door” ….I’m sure you would love a story time on that so you’ll have to tell me in the comments if you want to hear more about that. But all that to say things come up last minute and life happens.

  • Factor your gas and time into your travel fee. Every area has a different gas price and also if your doing multiple clients in a travel day make sure you factor in the distance between each clients house and don’t forget its still important for you to have a lunch.

Who is your client?

  • It’s a luxury to get services done at home. So treat it as such also when you service your client. This is also going to help factor in the next question.

  • Who is your clientele? If you could name a group of individuals that you would want to give a service to who would it be?

  • How will they know you exist? There are so many ways to get your name out there and I think we can both agree that social media is the best tool for that.

End goal, why do you want to travel?

  • Is it to gain more money? Figure out the reason you want to become a travel nail tech, because it’s all fun & games until someone breaks a nail lol literally

  • how often will you travel? Lets be realistic do you really want to travel house to house everyday of the week? It’s ok to have specific travel days.

  • Do you want to only travel or have a shop? You’re capable of any and everything you want to achieve my friend. Just don’t burn yurself out.

There are so many ways to become the nail tech you aspire to be. There is no right or wrong way of getting there.
